I hadn't tasted local food until 31 years of age. I bit into a truly fresh strawberry, and the difference in quality (compared to the grocery) was staggering. Suffice it to say, a local food guide is exciting and valuable to local food newcomers; thanks very much for creating it.

The Local Food Guide to Pittsburgh has been a tremendous resource to those new to the local food scene. Yet it is a comprehensive listing that even seasoned local foodies can gain something from. At the East End Food Co-op, the stack of guides in our vestible flies off the shelf. Thank you for bringing Pittsburgh into the age of green guides! I hope it will encourage more businesses, restaurants, and organizations to support local food systems.

- “Food is not just another commodity, but something which goes to the heart of human livelihood, culture and society. …Food is different. Food means farming, and farming means rural livelihoods, traditions and cultures, and it means preserving, or destroying, rural landscapes.”
